What Is
Life In Fast Forward?
Welcome to the online home of me, some guy given the name John Cleveland Payne. In the grand scheme of life, I am just another guy with another blog. But to myself, and hopefully to all of you who actually read this, I am something a little more special. From a young age, I fell in love of the idea of ‘the message’ and medium in which you try to transmit.

Basically, everyone has a message to give to the world. Some are basic, some complex, some have the power to up lift and some are just out there to bring as many people down as possible. But everyone has a message, and most people have problems identifying their message. And the ones who get that far can seem to figure out how to get the world to listen.

Well, I have a message, and this is where I will get a chance to share it. Hopefully, you’ll get plenty of things to keep you motivated or inspired, provide knowledge and comfort, and just have a little fun. Apologies for the state of flux and state of seemingly confusing messages that you’ll get here for a while, as I am doing a lot of personal soul searching, and scrubbing of old ideas to take the best of the past to build a new beginning.

In 2007, I changed the name of blog from “The Mis-Adventures Of The Jazzy Cool One” to “Life In Fast Forward.” I began to tear down old blogs and newsletters and try to find places for them here. My goal is to take the focus off of me the person, and show the world the life I live and share with every human on the planet. I aspire to life at a very high standard, and instead of dealing with people who rather slow us down, I want to find ways to help people pick up there own pace. As you get to see an insight to the further adventures I hope to lead, hopefully you’ll enjoy the ride, and want to come along.

Plan Of Attack Of Your Workload
Wednesday, July 16, 2008
A simple, two-part plan for improving your output at work:

Part 1: Do the best job you possibly can today.

Part 2: Tomorrow, try to do a little better.

If it were only that easy…

In order to improve your output, it’s going to first take a little detective work, and then a little doctoring. In extreme cases, major surgery.

Take some time to examine your workload, and do a better job of pre-planning your work before you actually start doing it.

Explaining The Joke
Tuesday, July 15, 2008
If you have to explain the joke, then the joke isn't funny.

Actually, that's not necessarily true. All you really know is that the joke isn't funny to the person you just explained it to.

THE SIMPLE SOLUTION: Stop telling dirty jokes at church bingo night.

A GREATER REFLECTION: Stop trying to explain processes or sell the idea of a new process to people who can't, won't or don't get it.

Taking Your New Year Career Audit Halfway Through The Year
Saturday, July 12, 2008
Cross Posted To Cool Corporate dot COM.

I came across Joan Lloyd article's “Career Audit for a New Year” as I was clearing out some old and duplicate files on my computer this morning. It had a great set-up of re-evaluating your mental job contract with your employer, whether there has been major change or not, just to see if you are still the right person for your own job, or if you should start the process of moving on.

There is just one flaw in the New Year time frame. A regularly scheduled audit of your career can be the key to help you maintain your career goals and your sanity. But when do you usually schedule your career audit?

If you are like most people, you set yourself for you annual dreaded time of reflection at the traditional end or beginning of something. For most, that means Christmas time reflections and New Year's Resolutions, where you swear you will take time to sit down and patiently go through your last 12 months in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the over-commercialized holiday season. No, this is not really a good time.

So how about right now? Yeah, right now, in the middle of the summer, just about SIX MONTHS into the year that is and before the year to come, where the only burdens weighing you down are to much potato salad at the 4th of July picnic and how to cut down on use of air conditioning. Waiting around until right now, in the slow days of the summer time could be just the right time to get away from yourself (and possibly get away from the trappings and distractions of work and life for a short period of time) and do a true evaluation of your live and career.

So take a weekend, take a deep breath, and take the time to sit and go through this list. And for more information on how Joan Lloyd & Associates can help you out, visit their website at http://www.JoanLloyd.com.

Adjusting To Change
Tuesday, July 01, 2008
Dilemma: You just worked hard to lose ten pound, but you don't feel any better about yourself.

Problem: You miss that lost ten pounds. Those ten pounds were such an important part of who you were that you don't know how to react without them.

The Wrong Solution: By a ten pound weighted vest. Wear that vest ALL THE TIME, until you can successfully gain your lost ten pounds back, and maybe more...

Sounds silly right? That’s because it is. It’s ridiculous. Yet how many people do you know that will shout to the rooftops about the problems they face and how much they want to change, but give up at the slightest notion that the changes are going into effect, and that people are beginning to notice.

If the change is positive, and the motivation to change is noble, then you know it’s not the actual change that is the problem. It’s your perception of change that is weighing you down.

The reason why change is hard is because it means doing something different and figuratively--although sometimes literally--uncomfortable. Going on a diet and exercise plan will lead to a healthier total lifestyle, and if you're not used to it, it’s going to feel weird living it. It will be like you're living in the body of a total stranger.

And that is because as soon as that chance begins, you become a different person, and the end result could be becoming a total stranger to your learned and established mindset and lifestyle. And your mind's first notion is to stop that change before it gets any further.

The Right Solution: Embrace the change and be prepared to feel a little uncomfortable as you get used to being a stranger in a strange body. Don't fear that what you have become is bad, and don't be discouraged by those who see your change for the better as a threat to their well being, because you will find a lot of those people. You will find that the world around you, including you, will have to adjust to the new you, and that can sometimes be even harder that putting forth the effort to make the changes happen in the first place. Don't get discouraged as you get used to living your new life.
