I got to host the first 30 minutes of The Dave Elswick Show this morning, and I wish I would have understood this story beforehand, or I would have talked about it.

The Smurfs are back in the news, not because of an upcoming 3-D CGI feature film from Paramount Pictures. The news is based on a new UNICEF ad-campaign on Belgian television. As this article from Yahoo! News explains:

Smurfette is left for dead. Baby Smurf is left crying and orphaned as the Smurf's village is carpet bombed by warplanes — a horrific scene and imagery not normally associated with the lovable blue-skinned cartoon characters.
Carpet bombing the Smurfs? Gargamel has gone a little to far . . .
